Life

After attending grammar school, Ignaz Bischoff studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich . In 1876 he became a member of the Corps Vitruvia Munich. After completing his studies, he did military service and later became an artillery captain in the Landwehr. From 1879 to 1883 he worked in the preparatory service for railway construction in Lower Bavaria and at the Munich Road and River Construction Office. In 1882 he passed the practical engineering examination for the state building service and went as an assistant to the Technical University of Munich, where he completed his habilitation in 1884 and was appointed private lecturer . He read probability and equilibrium calculations . In 1889 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1892 he switched to the cadastral bureau as a trigonometer, which later became the land surveying office . In 1900 he was promoted to tax assessor. In 1903 he was appointed head of the triangulation department, combined with a promotion to the tax council. Numerous network additions were made under the direction of Bischoff, which was a difficult undertaking in Bavaria, since the Bavarian cadastral system was backward compared to many other German states at the end of the 19th century.

In 1905, the Technical University of Munich appointed Bischoff as honorary professor for geodesy and engineering while retaining his position as head of the triangulation department . He taught mechanical and graphic arithmetic as well as compensation methods of the Bavarian land registry administration.
