Ignaz Ernst Ferdinand Cajetan Theodor Arnold (born April 4, 1774 in Erfurt , † October 13, 1812 ibid) was a German lawyer , German writer and organist .

Life

Arnold's father was electoral chamber councilor and alms commissioner in Erfurt, and, like his son later, organist at the Church of St. Severi . Arnold studied in Erfurt and graduated with a doctorate in law. and doctor phil. from. In 1800 he married Maria Anna Seehuber, the daughter of the head of the Cyriakus monastery. Shortly thereafter, he suffered a nervous breakdown that led to his admission to an insane asylum. After his release, he studied medicine and lectured as a private lecturer.

He wrote, mostly anonymously, a long series of trivial novels from the genres of ghost, horror , federal and robber novel , often with lascivious content. He also worked as a translator.

Arnold worked as an organist at the Ursuline Church and the Severikirche. He also wrote music-historical works, including the gallery of the most famous musicians of the 18th and 19th centuries , which appeared in two volumes in 1810.
