Ignaz Johann Berger

Ignaz Johann Berger (Czech Ignác Jan Berger ; born July 8, 1822 in Neutitschein , † June 29, 1901 in Vienna ) was a Moravian painter .

Life

Ignaz Johann Berger was the father of the painter Julius Victor Berger . After years of apprenticeship in the painter and sculptor studio of his uncle Anton Berger (1797–1867) in Neutitschein, in 1841 he went on a study trip to Vienna. After returning he worked again in his uncle's studio. Like him, he was mainly active in Moravia and Austrian Silesia . In addition to portraits , he created numerous religious paintings and passion cycles as well as genre and historical paintings in the Biedermeier style .
