Ihor Boryssyk ( Ukrainian Ігор Борисик , scientific transliteration Igor Borysik ; born  June 2, 1984 in Simferopol , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian breaststroke swimmer .

Career

His first major international success was the bronze medal over 100 meters chest at the European short course championships in 2004 in Vienna . He finished fifth over 200 meters chest. The following year at the European Short Course Championships in Trieste in 2005 , he finished fourth in the 200-meter chest.

In 2007 he became the European short course champion over the 200-meter chest distance. His most successful year so far was 2008, when he was able to secure the gold medal in the 100 meter chest and the silver medal in the 200 meter chest at the 2008 Short Course World Championships in Manchester . At the following Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008 , he reached the finals over 100 meters chest and finished seventh with a time of 1: 00.20 minutes. In the competition over 200 meters chest he was eliminated in seventh place in the first semifinals and thus finished 14th in the final ranking. Furthermore, with a new European record at the short course European championships in 2008 in Rijeka, he became European champion over the 100 meters chest distance. In addition, he achieved the bronze medal over the 200 meters and fifth place over the 50 meters chest distance.

A year later at the European Short Course Championships in Istanbul in 2009 , he was unable to defend his title in the 100-meter chest by winning the bronze medal.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , Boryssyk could not qualify for the semi-finals over 200 meters chest with a time of 2: 12.61 minutes as sixth of his first round.
