Like the two previous films, the film is based on Deep Breath, The Family Comes (2015) and There was never talk of relaxation (2017) on the Bundschuh books by Andrea Sawatzki. A fourth film adaptation will follow in December 2019 under the title We make Abitur .

action

The Bundschuh family is in mourning. Gundula's father Edgar has died after years of dementia. On this occasion, Gerald and Gundula's eldest son Rolfi came from America, where he has been studying for several years. Edgar's widow thanks everyone who came, but leaves no doubt that the family is just getting on her nerves.

In this situation, Rolfi reveals that he will get married here in Berlin next week and that the family is of course invited. The Bundschuhs don't know his girlfriend from America yet, but they want to celebrate their son's wedding. His mother Gundula organized a garden party without further ado. His aunt Rose is reassured when Rolfi declares that he will later be married in church in America. She doesn't want to go home with her Hadi, but rather stay in Berlin until the wedding. Mother Gundula suspects that her annoying relatives will settle in with her by then. All the preparatory work will also depend on her. After taking out her valuable family china and organizing a large party tent, she and Gerald reserve thirteen rooms in the hotel because so many guests are supposed to be arriving from America.

When a white stretch limousine pulls up, the whole family is lined up at home at the reception. To her horror, Rolfi's bride Candy is a heavily pregnant black woman and there are no thirteen, but only three: Candy, her father Reginald and his housekeeper Consuela. Gerald had confused the number of guests with the day of arrival. To get to know each other, the whole family meets with their guests for a brunch, which is not really harmonious. The mood doesn't get any better when they have coffee together. Gundula annoys her mother, her mother-in-law Susanne becomes more embarrassing with every drop of alcohol, and Rose adores the stately Reginald more and more. He talks to someone in America on the phone very often and seems very excited.

Ricarda claims to have found out that the Shoemakers are broke and that Candy is by no means a rich match for her brother. Gerald immediately makes a financial plan with his son and doubts that he can handle the whole thing as a simple student. In the evening, the bachelorette party, the situation relaxes a little when Gerald and Reginald discover their shared passion for music. Rose also uses the music and only dances with Candy's father the whole evening. In an unobserved moment, however, the hedge next to the grill begins to burn and the neighbors alert the fire department because their shed is destroyed in the process. This officially ends the hen party. As the police were also called because of the noise, the officials explain that all guests who do not live here must leave the property immediately. So everyone moves into the hotel without further ado, since enough rooms are reserved here. Rose now has nothing better to do than sneak into Reginald's room, Gerald cannot find his room and accidentally ends up in bed with his brother-in-law, Hadi.

The wedding is supposed to take place the next day. Since not all of them fit in the limousine, Rolfi drives the pregnant Candy on the scooter to the registry office. The rest of the company meanwhile gets stuck with the big car on the side of the road and everyone has to continue on foot. Gundula ruins her party dress, but everyone arrives at the registry office on time.

Nevertheless, the wedding falls apart, because after Reginald's phone call again, he and his daughter argue. Rolfi has to realize that he doesn't want to marry Candy after all. He fell in love with Candy instantly in America when her child's father abandoned her. Reginald had tried the whole time to get Candy's ex-boyfriend to give in, which he succeeded in the end. Both families are happy with the end of the day, because in the end everything is actually fine. Only Rose seems to have a problem, because after a few weeks she finds out that she is pregnant and wonders who is the father of her child.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said: “Even the first two film adaptations of the cheerful family novels by Andrea Sawatzki were a tightrope walk on the edge of the abyss to clothes. With a new author and under a different direction, however, the balancing act no longer works in the third film; promptly, 'You are of course invited' […] far too often falls into the cliché. ”“ This time the characters no longer seem exaggerated, but just exaggerated. ”

In Quotenmeter.de Julian Miller evaluated: it "demonstrates this film - though perhaps not as intended - on the basis of family Bundschuh what we have as a society still ahead. The fact that the in-law-to-be-in-law are Afro-American is not so much the starting point for an emphatically lively culture clash comedy, but rather serves as a catalyst to create conflicts within the Bundschuh family, which then a little should be relined comedically ".

Heike Huperzt from the FAZ said: “Gundula Bundschuh and her Mischpoke stumble, as usual, from one calamity to the next, but this time completely without charm or understanding. Audience favorites or folk actors [...] play a hysterical form of their best roles in 'You are of course invited'. The premises are extremely simple: without exception, everything has to take the worst possible slapstick turn, but it doesn't matter, mom is the best anyway because she keeps the family together. If you want to do this to the end, you have to be an extremely loyal fan of Andrea Sawatzki. "

At the Frankfurter Rundschau , Harald Keller wrote: “You can see most of the gags coming.” “ While writing, people only thought about the next gag. Unfortunately, this also applies to the more serious issues that emerge, such as coping with grief, latent and open racism, sexual problems. ”The actors presented as joke figures appear“ clumsy, scornful, alcoholic, sometimes incredibly stupid. ”
