Of recovery was never any question is a German TV movie of the director Vivian Naefe from the year 2017. The production is a continuation of the Christmas comedy Take a deep breath, the family comes (2015) and is based on the novel by Andrea Sawatzki . Author Mathias Klaschka once again contributed the script and tells of the Berlin housewife Gundula Bundschuh, played by Sawatzki, who is invited to Mallorca with her family by mother-in-law Susanne and steers from one disaster to the next.

The production of the feature film was again taken over by Ziegler Film on behalf of ZDF . The shooting took place from May to June 2016 on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca and in Berlin. In addition to Sawatzki, Naefe was able to gather the entire original cast in front of the camera. Only Christine Schorn's role of Ilse was re-cast with Thekla Carola Wied . TV critics rated the ensemble film largely positive when it was first broadcast in May 2017. In 2018, the sequel You are of course invited was published - also based on a book by Sawatzki .

action

The Bundschuh family wants to treat themselves to a relaxing holiday on Mallorca - they did the math without the relatives. Gundula, husband Gerald, their demented father Edgar and the two children accepted the invitation from mother-in-law Susanne. Edgar has to be looked for as soon as he arrives because he has once again started his own business. When Gundula finds him, the rental car goes inland and Gerald's wallet is stolen at the next rest stop . In addition, Edgar simply drives on by himself and the Bundschuhs have to take a taxi to the hotel, which is currently in the middle of renovation work. As a consolation, however, Edgar is already waiting for her here, since he dutifully followed the note in the car. But now Gerald's suitcase doesn't seem to be there and he has to borrow clothes that were left in the hotel.

That same evening, Gundula's hypochondriac brother Hadi and his babbling wife Rose arrive, who would like to invite Gerald and Gisela to meditate. But the four now have to recognize what Susanne is actually up to, because she wants to open her boutique in six days and nothing more than the shell can be seen. To make matters worse, Gundula's mother Ilse has now followed them and expects to be picked up from the airport. Susanne, on the other hand, is pushing more and more for her family to finally start work. But the family wants to enjoy their vacation first instead of working. Only Ricarda drops out early. She met a young man and spends every free minute with him. However, she has to realize very quickly that her Nino has a girlfriend.

A joint excursion, however, ends in a disaster, because after Hadi says he has upset his stomach and wants to be taken to the hospital, Gerald forgets Gundula on the way back. The attempt to take a taxi fails because she has no money with her. The only car that stops on the country road to take her away is a pickup truck whose loading area she has to share with sheep. But after the van breaks down, she stops a new car. But the driver is the pickpocket from the rest stop. When he wants to rob her, Gundula loses her nerve, knocks the man out and drives away in his car.

A short time later, Gundula is stopped by the police who discover a gun and stolen property from the owner in the car. So Gundula has to be picked up by her husband from the police station, which is very embarrassing to her and she wants to go back to Germany as soon as possible. Especially when she finds out that Gerald is making the hotel employee nice eyes. So she wants to comfort herself with her Berlin neighbor, Mr. Mussorksky, who also happens to be on vacation in Mallorca. In the end, both of them only fall asleep by the pool. Gundula realizes that her marriage has suffered a little and that she should first take care of herself and her professional career. She leaves her family at the vacation spot and flies back to Germany on the next plane.

criticism

The ensemble around actor Axel Milberg received positive reviews for his play without exception.

Tilmann P. Gangloff described the sequel in his review for the Frankfurter Rundschau as “gag fireworks” with a “wonderfully composed ensemble”. Practically every scene is "structured according to a 'calm before the storm' pattern [...]. That can be considered just as unoriginal as Gundula's gossip about Hadi and Rose, who just appear behind here at this very moment, but the staging by Vivian Naefe, who also directs deep breath, the family comes , wipes out the objection, the film was just a string of familiar set pieces, just put aside; The multitude of unsuccessful comedies of this kind alone shows how difficult this supposedly easy subject is ”.

Ulrich Feld from the Frankfurter Neue Presse found that the film “stepped on the gas pedal right from the start”. Opposite take a deep breath, the family comes along and the successor “adds several shovels. You could argue that not all gags are completely original, but that doesn't matter here: they ignite, and that's what matters ”. In addition to the high fun factor with echoes of Loriot and non-stop nonsense, “the ease with which this film repeatedly changes from the laid-back, ironic comedy to significantly more serious and profound tones, especially in the second half, is astonishing”. Only the end falls off a little.

Berliner Morgenpost editor Petra Koruhn mentioned that there was never any talk of relaxation as a “point-safe comedy that is above all parody and offers a particularly fine climax: the way Axel Milberg starts the“ Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Honolulu Beach Bikini ”in the karaoke baris pure entertainment . ”The continuation is“ a wonderful satire about noble vegans and luxury hypochondriacs ”and offers all sorts of“ dry humor ”. For "viewers who like it when every dialogue is crowned with a punchline, this evening is the best entertainment, also because it is extremely well cast".

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave it the top rating in their review and wrote: “Exaggerated types, situation comedy, completely normal madness: like its predecessor, 'Take a deep breath, the family is coming', this comedy is also reminiscent of Loriot's humor. Mathias Klaschka (script) and Vivian Naefe (director) implemented the template with a lot of gags. ”The publication also summed up:“ Fun with a great ensemble and pointed dialogues. ”

The TV magazine rtv came to the conclusion: “You take a well-dressed ensemble, give each of them a suitcase with neuroses and place them in front of a dream backdrop - and a whimsical feel-good comedy is ready. Numerous slapstick inserts are available along with a wildly grimacing Andrea Sawatzki all inclusive. Grandpa confuses the telephone with the shower cubicle, Gundula reaches for the curtain and crashes to the floor with the rod. That seems quite clichéd, but is made up for by the playfulness of the weird clan. "
