The Bundschuh family - We make Abitur is a German TV film by the director Thomas Nennstiel from 2019 . The comedy is the fourth film adaptation of Andrea Sawatzki's Familie Bundschuh book series and is based on the volume Others make it professional . Author Florian Hanig wrote the screenplay and once again tells of Gundula Bundschuh, played by Sawatzki, who wants to help her adolescent daughter Ricarda as head of the student theater group to graduate from high school and receives unasked support from her family.

action

Again Gundula Bundschuh has to struggle with all kinds of problems. Daughter Ricarda is about to graduate from university , but threatens to rattle through the Abitur shortly before the end of her school career . Your last chance is to successfully participate in the theater group, the leader of which was canceled at short notice. To Ricarda's chagrin, Gundula, of all people, declares that she is ready to help the students and replace them at a parents' evening. Little does she know what problems she will face with the children during rehearsals for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet .

At home, meanwhile, Gundula's brother Hadi and his heavily pregnant wife Rose have made themselves comfortable in their motorhome in the driveway. They have decided to leave their home in Memmingen in Swabia behind and to start over in Berlin after the child is born. Mother Ilse, on the other hand, expresses concerns about Hadi fatherhood after Rose had an affair with Reginald Shoemaker, the father of her grandson's ex-fiancé Rolfi, a few months earlier. In the meantime, Ilse herself fears that she will develop Alzheimer's disease and also decides to start again: She acquires the Bundschuhs' vacant house next door and begins therapy with Gundula's therapist, Mr Mussorksky.

The siege by Gundula's family becomes too much for Gerald: He invites his mother Susanne to support him. When she found out about Gundula's temporary teaching position, she and Hadi and Gerald decided to support Gundula's production with the appropriate stage equipment, music and a new script. In the subsequent rehearsals, however, the radical change of direction meets with resistance among the students. When they want to give up because of this and the project threatens to overturn, Gundula drives out of the skin and chases Hadi, Susanne and Gerald away. After she burned Gerald's collection of hit records in the schoolyard, she decided to move to her mother's house next door.

Susanne senses the chance to couple her son with his childhood friend Sabine. However, this blocks. When Gundula also brings son Matz to live with him, Gerald and Ricarda have to realize that Gundula is missing everywhere. When Gerald tries to serenade his wife in front of her bedroom window, he falls off the ladder and ends up in the hospital with a broken arm. The family reconciles and Gundula makes one last attempt to stage the play according to her own ideas. On the evening of the performance, their modern adaptation is celebrated by the audience and Ricarda succeeds in passing with top marks. Meanwhile, when Rose went into labor, there was a surprise in the delivery room that drove Hadi to faint: the baby was black - like its sire Reginald.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff found in his review in the Frankfurter Rundschau that the fourth part of the series is “again very entertaining”, but often “looks like a number revue”, “which all too often falls into clichés and clothes. In addition, there is now a certain wear and tear, because neither the dramaturgy nor the stereotype of the characters changed. Since the events are at least superficially all funny, we make Abitur is “a varied, turbulent comedy, but again the script and direction have not succeeded in embedding the numbers in a tangible dramaturgy; the film looks like a sketch comedy ”. Worth seeing is we do Abitur "primarily because of the ensemble, which did not even try to play against the respective roles of the clichés, but rather on the top drives."

In his TV review for the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung , Tom Heise summed up that “the fourth film adaptation after the series of novels by Andrea Sawatzki [...] also scores with good situational comedy and successful dialogue wit”. "The various family entanglements that are always on the verge of slipping into absolute catastrophe" were fun. This is "all not particularly meaningful, but highly enjoyable. The light comedy is mainly carried by its prominent actors ”. In addition to Sawatzki and Milberg, Thekla Carola Wied and Judy Winter in particular made a name for themselves as “each one of them as exhausting grandmas”. Ochsenknecht also gave "great pleasure with his portrayal of the much-courted, charming therapist Mussorksky".

Weser Kurier editor Maximilian Haase wrote that the film “with a joke that was implemented in a pleasantly complex manner by Florian Hanig's screenplay for ZDF primetime conditions [...], from excessive role expectations for women to the integration of migrants, numerous burning topics “Cut. “For example, the debate among the annoying new neighbors about the possible skin color of their expecting child” is wonderfully implemented. Such “twisted constellations” would “of course have to be dealt with: as a guest star, Uwe Ochsenknecht is convincing in the role of the jovial, chatty therapist”.
