The Ilhéu de Sal Rei ( Cape Verde Creole : Djeu d Sal Rei ) is an uninhabited island 1 km from the capital Sal Rei of the island of Boavista on Cape Verde .
The island, which is a good 20 m high at its highest point, measures 1.5 km from northwest to southeast and is up to 500 m wide. Both for the port of Sal Rei and for the kilometer-long sandy beach Praia de Chaves , located south of the island's capital, it has the advantage of reducing the surf of the Atlantic .
Grass and some bushes grow on the island of volcanic origin. In the south are the remains of the Portuguese fort Duque de Bragança , in the center of the island are the ruins of an earlier lighthouse.
