The Illinois State Route 54 (in short IL 54 is) a State Route in the State of Illinois , the east-west direction is in.

The State Route begins on Interstate 55 near Springfield and ends in Onarga on US Highway 45 . At Mount Pulaski it crosses Illinois State Route 121 and at Clinton it meets US Highway 51 and Illinois State Route 10 . The highway meets Interstate 74 and US Highway 150 near Farmer City . North of Farmer City it crosses US Highway 136 and at Gibson City the State Route passes Illinois State Routes 47 and 9 . Shortly before Onarga, the highway meets Interstate 57 .

Until 1972, today's State Route was called US Highway 54 . This year US 54 was shortened and now runs from Pittsfield north towards Griggsville and ends at Interstate 72 . The further route to Chicago, which has not been merged with other routes, remains number 54, but is no longer classified as a Federal Highway .
