The Ilse is a 15 km long orographically right tributary of the Bega in East Westphalia-Lippe .

The Ilse rises on the slope of the 278 m high Bickplecken and flows from its origin in a south-easterly direction, flowing through Welstorf and Kirchheide , reaching Bredaerbruch and Entrup. Approximately from the Steinmühle, south of Entrup , the Ilse flows westwards, flows through Leese and from there flows southwards and flows into the Bega in Lieme at Bega kilometer 12. The Ilse flows exclusively in the area of ​​the city of Lemgo .

Water quality

In 2001 the Ilse in the upper reaches, below the confluence of the Taller Bach, was heavily polluted ( water quality class III) and improved its water quality to water quality class II (moderately polluted) up to the confluence with the Bega. According to investigations from 2008, almost the entire course shows moderate exposure (quality class II). Only the estuary area has a lower quality and is assigned to water quality class II-II (critically polluted).
