Imanan is a rural municipality in the department Filingué in Niger .

geography

Imanan is located in the Sahel on the Dallol Bosso . The neighboring communities are Filingué in the north, Kourfeye Center in the east and Tondikandia in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 32 administrative villages and 28 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Bonkoukou. The 14th north latitude runs through the main town .

history

Imanan was settled by several Tuareg groups at the beginning of the 19th century . Around 1870 Imanan's ruler Bakkim defeated the Zarma of Dosso . After his death in 1888 his son Anar received the rule, Efilla followed him in 1890. The latter had to defend himself against attacks from Karma and Filingué. In 1896 Mazou was his successor. Mazou surrendered to the French in 1901 and fled to Nigeria .

The rural community of Imanan emerged from the Imanan / Bonkoukou canton in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform.

At the 2001 census, Imanan had 29,286 inhabitants. For 2010, 38,759 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located on the southern edge of a zone where agropastoralism is practiced. National road 25 runs through Imanan and connects the municipality with the neighboring town of Filingué and the Nigerien capital Niamey .
