Text and music

Label of the single Again and again on Sundays

Every Sunday is a hit in 4 / 4 -Stroke , which is written in its original version in German. The song is made up of two stanzas, interrupted by a two-part refrain, which is sung again after the second stanza. The refrain consists of the repeated repetition of the lines “Remembrance comes again and again on Sundays”, followed by a line sung by a choir “Dibbidibbidibbdibb dib” and a few other lines of the song.

The musical accompaniment is adapted to the Greek style and consists of an acoustic guitar, bouzukis and a choir, which begins both after the individual lines and in the chorus. In addition, an even beat is given by a drum sound.

The text describes a couple's memories of a vacation in Greece. He begins by describing the evenings on vacation:

"They came over every Sunday - aha,
our musicians from Athens"

The couple remembers it "again and again on Sundays", while they hear "the bouzukis play, just like on Sunday night when happiness brought us two home."

According to Cindy Berger, it was a shallow song with no background, although the story itself did not describe any memories of its own and was invented by the lyricists.

The music and the text for Always Again Sundays were written by the Dutch composer Dries Holten and the German lyricist and producer Kurt Feltz, the latter using the pseudonym Jonny Halvey. Until then, Cindy & Bert had mainly sung ballads and initially wanted to decline the offer to sing this hit song. However, Feltz persuaded the couple to record it despite their concerns, and the single was released in February 1973. It was released by record labels BASF and Cornet with the song Souvenirs of a Love on the B-side:

  1. Again and again on Sundays - 3:10
  2. Souvenirs of a love - 3:20

The song also appeared on her album Two People and One Way , which was also released in 1973.

The recording entered the German single charts on February 5 of that year and was able to work its way up to number three, making it the duo's first top 10 hit and at the same time their biggest chart hit . In total, it stayed in the charts for 23 weeks. In Austria and Switzerland, the single hit the charts on May 15, 1973. In Austria it rose to number 20 and remained in the charts for a month, in Switzerland it rose to number six and stayed in the charts for eleven weeks. On February 17, 1973, the song was played in the ZDF hit parade with Dieter Thomas Heck as a new performance and was voted number three for March and number one for April.

Cindy & Bert subsequently had other chart successes, especially with the songs of Spain's guitars , But in the evening the Gypsy plays and When the Roses Bloom in Malaga , however, could not achieve the success of Always Again Sundays a second time. Due to its success and popularity, the song was published on numerous Schlager compilations and is still considered a classic of the 1970s.
