Imperium Dekadenz is an extreme metal band from the Black Forest founded in 2004 .
Naming
The band name came about under the impression of the film Caligula by Tinto Brass . The members were fascinated by the violence and decadence depicted in the film , as well as the depicted pride in the Roman Empire . All of this should be reflected in the name Imperium Decadence.
Pascal "Vespasian" Vannier named himself after Vespasian , the first Roman emperor of the Flavian dynasty . What impressed him about this historical person was his calm, open-minded manner, which is in contrast to his predecessors.
Christian "Horace" Jakob named himself after the important Roman poet Horace . He was impressed by the saying "We are dust and shadows." For him, the historical person of Horace embodies truthfulness .
history
Vespasian and Horaz met in 2004 when Vespasian was looking for a ride to Wacken and Horace offered him a place in his car. During the drive, Horaz Vespasian played ax from his demo tape and the idea of making music together came up. In winter 2005 they recorded their first work Promo 2005 together and sent it to various labels. Perverted Taste then offered them a record deal. In 2006 they released their first album ... and the world was cold and empty on the label. The album Twilight of the Scenarios followed in 2007 .
In 2010, the band explicitly distanced themselves from their old label Perverted Taste, after the latter increasingly included bands with right-wing extremist ideas in their distribution offer. In this context, Horace said that the lies of these people would “piss him off” and that politics had no place in art. In the same year they released the album Procella Vadens ( lat. , Wanderer im Sturm ) on the French label Season of Mist .
In the concept album Meadows of Nostalgia , released in 2013, the band lyrically addresses their homeland, the Black Forest . In 2015, the band was portrayed as part of the cultural landscapes report series on the television channel 3sat . The program, moderated by Wladimir Kaminer , was first broadcast on August 24, 2015. In 2016 the album Dis Manibvs ( lat. The spirits of the dead , formula on ancient tombstones) was released. The theme of the album is "Learn to Live and Die". In August 2018, the band signed an international recording deal with Napalm Records . The new album When We Are Forgotten was released on August 30, 2019.
live
When performing live, the two founding members have been supported by the three members of Vargsheim since 2008. In addition to their headline tours, the band is a regular guest at major festivals such as the Wacken Open Air , the Ragnarök Festival , the Party.San Open Air, the Summer Breeze Open Air and the Metalcamp .
style
music
The band describes their music as "powerful, icy and organic". They are mainly inspired by Scandinavian bands like Burzum , Shining and Darkthrone . But the band Dead Can Dance also has a great influence on the atmosphere of their music.
Texts
The band Imperium Dekadenz has never decided on the language of their lyrics. In the album Procella Vadens she uses the German , English , French and Latin languages. In their lyrics the band processes u. a. historical events of the Roman Empire , such as B. the rise and fall of Pompeii in the song Vulcano .
