One day a swarm of leaf-eating gobblers attacks the "Great Valley" and devours all the plants it can find. The once lush landscape is now barren and empty, and the herds of the valley have to find a new home until the leaves have grown back. Littlefoot and his friends set off alone when arguments threaten to divide the adults. Their search leads them to the “great water”, the ocean, and to the shores of a mysterious island. When they cross a land route to the island, a seaquake triggers a tsunami that destroys the land route. You are now trapped on the island. When they try to get back to the mainland with a tree trunk, they are attacked by a "floating black tooth", a shark, and swim back to the island. You meet Chomper, who is happy to see you again and, surprisingly, can speak in contrast to his parents. Cera is of the opinion that they cannot be friends with him because he is a sharp tooth and therefore they are his food, which makes Chomper very sad. Then a new danger arises: another sharp tooth, a Giganotosaurus, attacks the friends. You escape to the coast where Chomper tries to help you by biting the attacker's tail. Then Chomper's parents appear who want to protect their son. They fight against the attacker, who first wins the upper hand until Chomper's father knocks him down with his tail. When the sharp tooth falls into the sea, it pushes Chomper down with it. Littlefoot saves Chomper while the sharp tooth drifts out to sea. Then another aquatic inhabitant appears, which is initially mistaken for a shark, but turns out to be a marine dinosaur, presumably Plesiosaurus, and brings them back to land. Since Littlefoot saved their son, Chomper's parents now seem to like him and his friends. They say goodbye to Chomper and his parents, which is especially difficult for Chomper. After these experiences, the friends come back to their parents, who are welded together again by concern for the children. When the valley turns green again, the dinosaurs return home.
