The Ina Basin ( Japanese 伊 那 盆地 , Ina-bonchi ), Ina Valley ( 伊 那 谷 , Ina-dani ) or Ina Plain ( 伊 那 平 , Ina-daira ) is a basin in the center of the Japanese Alps in Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu . It extends over 60 km in a north-south direction and is traversed by the Tenryū River. It is one of the "four levels" mentioned in the Nagano Prefecture Song.

Geography and climate

The basin is delimited in the west by the Kiso Mountains and in the east by the Ina Mountains as the promontory of the Akaishi Mountains . The two highest mountains on the edge of the basin are the Kai-Komagatake in the Akaishi Mountains and the Kiso-Komagatake in the Kiso Mountains.

Although the Ina Basin is very centrally located on Honshū in the high mountains , comparatively little snow falls in winter. The snowfall can be compared to that in Yamanashi Prefecture or that in southern Gifu Prefecture . Under the influence of the hair dryer , it can get very hot in the pool in summer.

Large cities and counties

The following major cities and districts are in the Ina Basin:
