Ina Sofie Amalie von Bentivegni , b. von Binzer, (born December 3, 1855 in Brunstorff near Hamburg-Bergedorf , † December 17, 1929 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German writer and teacher. She wrote under the pseudonym Ulla von Eck .

Life

She was born at the Brunstorff forestry chief as the daughter of a forester and, due to frequent transfers of her father, lived in Friedrichsruh , Mölln , Kiel and Schleswig at a young age . Around 1866 the family moved to Arnsberg in Westphalia , where von Binzer attended school. She later received her training in Bonn and finally passed her teacher examination in Soest . After her mother's death, she first ran the household of her family, who had moved to Königsberg in Prussia , before devoting herself entirely to teaching. After teaching in various German schools, von Binzer went to Brazil in 1881 . Until 1884 she taught the children of coffee plantation owners in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo as governess and worked as a teacher at a private girls' school for poor children. Her letters from those years were published in 1887 under the title ' Suffering and Freud' of an educator in Brazil in fictionalized form under the pseudonym Ulla von Eck as a novel.

Back in Germany, von Binzer took up her new residence in Berlin . With the financial support of an uncle, she was able to devote herself entirely to writing. Other works were published, including the Berlin-based novel Zigeuner der Großstadt in 1894 . In 1895 she moved back to Schleswig-Holstein, where she married the magistrate Adolf von Bentivegni, born in 1862, in 1896. She went with him to Gransee in 1899 and to Halle an der Saale at the end of 1906 , where she died in 1929.
