The industrial union for mining, chemistry and energy ( IG BCE ) was created in 1997 through the merger of IG Bergbau und Energie (IG BE) with IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik (IG CPK) and the leather union (GL). It is based on Königsworther Platz in Hanover .

The IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie is a member of both the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) and the European Movement Germany network . It is the third largest single trade union in the DGB. In 2018, it had around 632,400 (495,398 male, 136,991 female) members. The union covers professions in the mining , chemicals , gas , glass , rubber , ceramics , plastics , leather , mineral oil , paper , pharmaceutical , renovation / disposal , hard coal and water management industries .

Structure of the organization

The basis of the organization is formed by the local groups and trust bodies , which are on an equal footing at their level. Further units such as the district , the state district and the main board build on this. The members are looked after by the spatial division of a total of 44 districts, so that the responsible district management can be reached by the members without spending a lot of time and travel. The trade union and political issues of the individual districts are coordinated by the eight regional districts of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse / Thuringia, North, Northeast, North Rhine, Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland and Westphalia. The headquarters of the union and the executive board with a total of five areas are located in Hanover.

The proportion of women in the top committees such as the executive board is two women to three men, the proportion of full-time trade unionists in supervisory board mandates to be filled by IG BCE is to be increased to 30 percent.

There are three training centers in Bad Münder , Haltern am See and Grünheide (Mark) available for trade union training .
