Ingeborg Stein (born February 28, 1934 in Meißen as Ingeborg Dähne ) is a German musicologist , museologist and writer .

Life

Ingeborg Dähne was born in 1934 as the second of three children to a family of teachers. She received music lessons at an early age, wrote her own texts as soon as she could write, and originally wanted to be a writer. After graduating from high school in 1953, however, in view of the ideological environment at the time, studying German seemed to her to be “too detrimental to finding one's own words” - and so she instead majored in musicology.

She completed her basic musical training at the “Hanns Eisler” music academy in Berlin and then studied with medieval and Bach researcher Heinrich Besseler in Jena and Leipzig, as well as with Hermann August Korff and Hans Mayer as a minor in German . In 1959 she completed her studies with a diploma.

After five years as a dramaturge in Greifswald , Quedlinburg and Weimar, Ingeborg Stein worked as a freelance musicologist and journalist for a decade, including as an employee of Répertoire International des Sources Musicales (RISM), as well as training in music therapy and working in Leipzig and Jena . In 1978 Stein became an assistant at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and received her doctorate in 1982 ; her dissertation is entitled “Empirical-experimental investigation of the determination of the life of musicians” .

From 1985, the composer Heinrich Schütz shaped her further professional life: Ingeborg Stein took over the house where Heinrich Schütz was born in Bad Köstritz and was the first director to open a research and memorial site, which she managed until her retirement in 1999. In 1986 she initiated the foundation of the Schütz Academy in Bad Köstritz.

Her first literary publication appeared in 1992, followed by more. In 2009 she was editor and proofreader for the documentation "Boke-Mutter" about Irmgard Bokemeyer geb. Krug (1906–2001) which she described as her “homage to writings that serve to establish the truth and a culture of remembrance” .

In 2013 Ingeborg Stein and Manfred Jendryschik published the book Mein Robbenloch im Eis - Diaries & Pictures by the artist Erika John ; she had lived very withdrawn in Jena for years and probably committed suicide in 2007 . The book aims to stimulate rediscovering Erika John as “an artist of at least national standing. Erika John, a stranger in two social systems, withdrew from the public eye in the last decade of her life after she had brought about a thousand astonishing drawings into the world. Their diaries also provide very interesting information. "

Ingeborg Stein lives in the Tiefurt district of Weimar .
