Tiefurt is a district of the Thuringian city of Weimar . On December 31, 2018, it had 749 inhabitants in an area of 2.64 square kilometers.
location
Tiefurt lies on the Ilm , which flows around the street village in a large loop. The city center of Weimar, to which the town is connected by city bus routes, is located about two kilometers southwest. Other neighboring villages are Kromsdorf in the northeast and Süßenborn in the southeast. In addition to the historic district, the Dürrenbacher Hütte settlement also belongs to the Weimar district.
history
Tiefurt was first mentioned in a document in 1206. A fortified mansion stood in the place of the later chamber property. A river crossing was probably controlled from there. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Marshals von Tiefurt were called, who were vassals of the Orlamünder and who probably owned the manor. There are no more traces of this attached seat. In the 18th century, Tiefurt became a summer residence for the Weimar dukes. For this purpose, Tiefurt Castle was expanded and an extensive park was created north of the village on the Ilm. The palace and park are now part of the Klassisches Weimar ensemble , which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the park is u. a. the Mozart monument Tiefurt , which was erected in 1799 and was the first monument for the composer outside of today's Austria. Along the Ilm, the park is connected to the Park on the Ilm in Weimar by a green ribbon . The Ilm cycle path also leads through the park . Today the place lives mainly from the day-trippers who are entertained in the restaurants. Weimar's main sewage treatment plant is located south of Tiefurt, somewhat hidden on the Ilm.
Since it was incorporated in 1922, Tiefurt has belonged to the city of Weimar. The district mayor is Jörg Rietschel.
