Her other research areas include integrative AV and online communication research, social and media change processes and digital television in Austria.

Research projects

Ingrid Paus-Hasebrink has led various national and international research projects. She is currently the head of the Austrian research group, funded by the regional youth councils of the federal states and the Federal Ministry of Economics, Family and Youth, in the EU Kids Online network, which deals with the use of the Internet by children and young people as part of the European Union's Safer Internet Plus program and examines opportunities and risks. At the beginning of the fourth project phase (since autumn 2014), the coordination of the research network was taken over by Uwe Hasebrink and Claudia Lampert from the Hans Bredow Institute for Media Research at the University of Hamburg .

Another current research project is the long-term study on the media socialization of socially disadvantaged adolescents in Austria, which was funded by the anniversary fund of the Austrian National Bank from 2005 to 2017. This project is committed to the spirit of committed social research and thus not only offers the results of empirical research, but also formulates concepts and recommendations for action that are intended to enable socially disadvantaged adolescents to learn how to use media properly as they grow up. A third pillar of the project is the development and continuation of the praxeological media socialization research approach, which is based on the work of Pierre Bourdieu and Ralph Weiß , among others . After dealing with the life phases of early, middle and late childhood, this also enables research into the life phase of youth, which is important for development. With a duration of now over ten years, the media socialization study is the longest of its kind to date. Since December 2014 Ingrid Paus-Hasebrink has been researching together with Sascha Trältzsch-Wijnen , Jasmin Kulterer (both University of Salzburg ), Brigitte Hipfl and Alexa Weik von Mossner (both University of Klagenfurt ) as well as other scientists from a total of 46 countries as part of the World Hobbit Project Attitudes and opinions of the audience on the films of the current Hobbit trilogy.

Ingrid Paus-Hasebrink also advocates a holistic, integrative consideration of communication phenomena on the levels of production, offers, reception and social consequences in her research projects. She is one of the decisive representatives of the research strategy of triangulation , which is firmly anchored in qualitative social research but is also used in quantitative social research .
