Inland Electronic Navigational Chart
Inland Electronic Navigational Charts ( IENC ; German electronic navigation maps for inland waterways ) are produced and published in Germany by the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV).
The Inland ENC is a file-based database standardized in terms of content, structure and format for use with Inland ECDIS - the navigation systems for inland navigation. It is based on the Inland ECDIS standard.
definition
The International Inland ENC Harmonization Group IEHG defines IENC as follows: Inland Electronic Navigational Chart (IENC) is formally defined as: the database, standardized as to content, structure and format, for use with inland electronic chart display and / or information systems operated onboard of vessels transiting inland waterways. An IENC is issued by or on the authority of a competent government agency, and conforms to standards initially developed by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and refined by the Inland ENC Harmonization Group. An IENC contains all the chart information necessary for safe navigation on inland waterways and may contain supplementary information in addition to that contained in the paper chart (eg, sailing directions, machine-readable operating schedules etc.) which may be considered necessary for safe navigation and voyage planning.
( German Electronic Navigation Maps for Inland Waterways (IENC) are formally defined as a database, standardized in terms of content, structure and format, for use on Inland ECDIS - the navigation systems for inland navigation - on board ships that move on inland waterways. An IENC is provided by or issued on behalf of a competent authority and initially complies with the standards of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), which are adapted or expanded for inland waterways by the Inland ENC Harmonization Group (IEHG). An IENC contains everything necessary for safe navigation on inland waterways Map information and, in addition to the information on the paper map, may contain additional information (e.g. travel directions, machine-readable lock operating times, etc.) that are considered necessary for safe navigation and travel planning. )
Content
If the Inland ENC is used for navigation purposes, at least the following object types must be available:
- Shoreline at mean water
- Bank structures ( groynes , tail units )
- Outlines of the locks and weirs
- Fairway boundaries (if any)
- Isolated danger spots in the fairway below and above water (bridges, overhead lines, culverts )
- Shipping signs (buoys, beacons, light signals, board signs, ...)
- Waterway axis with kilometers and hectometers
In addition to these minimum contents, the official Inland ENCs of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration provide further information, such as: B .:
- Areas with restrictions
- Commercial shipping berths (people and goods)
- Kilometers of the waterway
shown.
If the Inland ENC is used in the Inland ECDIS navigation mode, the respective competent authority for each waterway must have checked the objects of the minimum content within its geographical responsibility. This authority then declares the Inland ENC to be suitable for navigation mode.
Leaf cut
The individual Inland ENC files are also called cells. They basically describe a 10 km section of a waterway . Exceptions exist where one waterway merges into another (e.g. Main-Danube Canal / Danube ), where the size of the "last" cell / file of the waterway section is adapted to the requirements.
File naming
These files ("cells") are given a unique name, which is composed as follows:
CC P RR (R) (D) DD.EEE
CC | Manufacturer code
1W for inland navigation maps of the German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (The designation DE is only used for electronic sea charts in the ECDIS format of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, Hamburg / Rostock.) The manufacturer code for inland ENCs of the German Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration was converted to 1W in 2004. The Inland ENC (October 2004 edition) are all created with this manufacturer code. |
P | Usage number = engl. Designation - intended use of the cell
(old: 5 = harbor - navigation on inland waterways) |
RR (R) | Waterway code (3-digit for 2-digit waterway kilometers)
|
(D) DD | Waterway mileage (2-digit with 3-digit waterway code)
530 = starting kilometers of the cell |
EEE | File extension
000 = base cell in the official exchange format 001 = first update 002 = second update |
Example:
- 1W7RH530.000 (official inland ENC of the German WSV for the Rhine, km 530.0 to 539.9)
- 1W7D2300.000 (official inland ENC of the German WSV for Danube, km 2300.0 to 2309.9)
- 1W7BSK05.000 (official inland ENC of the German WSV for Berlin-Spandauer Schifffahrtskanal, km 0.98 to 7.56)
The edition number and the date of manufacture (issue date) are stored in the cell header. These data are stored in the installation certificates. The date of issue of the current Inland ENCs of the German WSV are listed in the tables.
Inland ENC as a map service
In addition to the use of the Inland ENC on navigation systems for inland shipping, "Inland ECDIS ", the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration has published a web map service on its homepage . Anyone can integrate this map service , standardized in accordance with the OGC WMS specification , into corresponding client software for displaying web map services. In addition to the above WMS, a WMTS and a single-layer WMS are also available. The latter allows individual object types (layers) of the WMS to be switched on and off.
