Institut d'études politiques
The instituts d'études politiques (abbreviation IEP ; French for institutes for political studies ) are a group of state institutions. They were founded over time on the model of the oldest, the Paris IEP, and teach in political science , sociology , foreign languages , sports , economics and law .
There are a total of ten IEPs in France. In the order in which they were founded, these are:
- 1872: IEP Paris , Grande école , whose basic studies (first two years) can also be completed at fully integrated branch offices:

- with a focus on Eastern Europe in Dijon
- with a focus on Latin America in Poitiers
- with a focus on the Arab world and the Mediterranean in Menton
- with a focus on Asia in Le Havre
- with a focus on North America in Reims

Only the IEP Paris is an independent university, a grand établissement under French law . The IEP Strasbourg is simply a sub-institute of the University of Strasbourg III ( Robert Schuman ) , while the remaining seven are themselves legal entities under public law, but are always affiliated with a university.
There are also institutions of the same name in other French-speaking regions, such as the institut d'études politiques in Algiers .
