The International Catholic Conference of Scouting ( English International Catholic Conference of Scouting , common abbreviation ICCS; French Conférence Internationale Catholique du Scoutisme , abbreviation CICS) is an international association of Roman Catholic scout associations . It was founded in 1948 and recognized by the Holy See in 1962 as an international association of believers under papal law. The organization, based in Rome, is affiliated with the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).

In 1920, at the first worldwide meeting of the "International Office of the Scout Movement", the idea of ​​founding an "International Catholic Conference of Scouts" arose. The initiators were the French Jesuit Jacques Sevin from the French Scouts, the Italian Count Mario di Carpegna from the Association of Italian Scouts and Professor Jean Corbisier from the Belgian Scouts Association. The initiative was taken by Pope Benedict XV. (1914–1922) and in July 1922 the statutes were approved. The first members were Argentina , Austria , Belgium , Chile , Ecuador , France , Italy , Luxembourg , Poland , Spain and Hungary . Between 1946 and 1947 those responsible carried out the reactivation and in 1948 the “International Catholic Conference of Scouts” was officially founded. In June 1962 the Holy See proclaimed the “Charter of Catholic Scouts” and issued the statute with the papal recognition decree , at the same time the international Catholic organization adopted the name “International Catholic Conference of Scouting”. In 2000, the ICCS was added to the official list of associations of the faithful by the Pontifical Council for the Laity .

In its orientation and orientation it is committed to both the statutes of the World Scout Movement and the 1977 Charter of Catholic Scouting. The ICCS sees itself as the guiding body for all managers and educators : Its aim is to make a contribution to a holistic education of young people. For this purpose, she uses Christian education , which is based on the Catholic faith. That is why it sets up seminars and educational institutions , works out programs for religious education and ensures international dialogue . The Catholic Scouts constantly participate in the activities of the Catholic Church and present themselves at World Youth Days , forums, conferences, Jamborees , Ecumenical Church Days and Catholic Days .

Organization and expansion

The highest body of the ICCS is the World Council, which meets every three years. The General Secretary to whom the General Secretariat is assigned is elected by him . This consists of 2 vice secretaries, the treasurer and the church assistant . The regional secretariats Africa , Asia, and North and South America are affiliated below the World Council . The national scout associations form the lowest level. The ICCS has 65 member organizations around the world, the corresponding association of the girl scouts organization in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is the Conference Internationale Catholique du Guidisme . The scout organizations are spread across 50 countries and are represented in Africa, Asia, Europe , the Middle East , North America, Oceania and South America. The ICCS publishes a total of three magazines (Info, Signes and Cahiers) and has its headquarters in Rome .
