The Xi'an International University (short: XAIU ; English : Xi'an International University ; Chinese : 西安 外事 学院; pinyin : xī'ān wàishì xuéyuàn ) is a non-profit, general private university in Xi'an , Shaanxi, accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education , China .

The university was founded in 1992. The campus covers an area of ​​1.26 million square meters. The university has around 20,000 students and more than 1,700 employees. The XAIU is divided into 8 faculties and 67 subject areas. In 2020, the XAIU had more than 200,000 graduates .

history

Xi'an International University was founded in 1992 and was originally a school for continuing education . In 1996, with the approval of the Shaanxi Provincial Ministry of Education, the college became one of the first private academic institutions in Shaanxi Province to award diplomas through examination.

In May 2000, with the approval of the Shaanxi Province People's Government, the XAIU became a vocational school .

In March 2005, the XAIU became a college with the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education and was officially renamed Xi'an International University (Chinese: 西安 外事 学院). In June 2009, 4 years after the first students enrolled in the first undergraduate programs, Xi'an International University was successfully adapted to its new role and was granted the right to award undergraduate degrees.

In May 2009, the XAIU also established the College of Entrepreneurship (Chinese: 创业 学院), the first college for entrepreneurship established by a private university in China. In 2010 the university set up a training platform for students to obtain a master's degree in “Business Administration and Entrepreneurship”.

In 2014 the XAIU founded the “Qi-Fang Academy for Classical Learning” (七 方 书院). The academy teaches a combination of theory and practice. It offers moral education , postgraduate education, and liberal arts education . The Qi-Fang Academy works with various party groups, associations, campus culture, career planning, etc. to further promote student self-management .

In 2017, Xi'an International University opened a new sports center with an area of ​​more than 50,000 square meters, making it one of the largest multi-purpose sports facilities in northwest China .

On January 6, 2020, the XAIU founded the "Laozi Academy" (老子 学院) to convey traditional Chinese culture . The Laozi Academy is the first traditional arts education academy in a second-level college named after Laozi . The academy has seven departments: the Department of Chinese Studies, the Department of Chinese Painting , the Department of Chinese Music , the Department of Calligraphy , the Department of Wushu , the Department of Tea Art, and the Department of Chess Art .

Motto and legend

The motto 化 鱼 成龙 ( turn a fish into a kite ) is the spirit of campus culture. The legend of a fish turned into a dragon in Yuhua Lake, what is now the campus.

International University

As one of the first private colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province to be approved for conducting international cooperative education and international student education, the university built cooperation and exchange relationships with more than 100 well-known universities in the UK, USA, Canada, Hungary, South Korea , Japan, Russia and other countries.

Hundreds of students from all over the world have come to XAIU every year since 2004, and more than 1,500 people have been trained. At the same time, language courses from levels 1 to 6 of the Chinese aptitude test (HSK) are held every semester and students are admitted.
