Academy for Psychotherapy and Pastoral Care

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Academy for Psychotherapy and Pastoral Care ( APS ), based in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and with a postal address in Frankenberg, is a non-profit association founded in 2000 with the aim of bringing cross-denominational Christian psychotherapists and pastors into a constructive technical discussion.

statute

The association was founded by doctors from the Christian psychotherapy clinics Hohe Mark , Elbingerode and De'Ignis , among others . The founding members include Arnd Barocka and Samuel Pfeifer . The prerequisite for membership is “a completed degree in medicine , psychology , theology or other human sciences ” as well as pastoral or psychotherapeutic activity and a personal belief in the sense of the Apostles' Creed, without restriction to a specific church or denomination. In 2016 the association had 850 members. The APS is headed by the psychiatrist Martin Grabe .

The purpose of the association according to the statutes is to “promote encounters between psychotherapy and Christian pastoral care in science and practice” by integrating “meaning and value orientation” and “therapeutic methodology”.

activities

The aim is to achieve a "qualitative improvement in counseling and treatment ..." through the work of the APS. To this end, it organizes regular conferences. Since 2005, the magazine “P & S: Magazine for Psychotherapy and Pastoral Care” has been published by the Academy for Psychotherapy and Pastoral Care four times a year . The “Empirical Research” workshop and an annual conference are held annually. Since 2007 there have been regional conferences that have been held annually in three different regions of Germany since 2011 (north in Elbingerode, Rhine-Ruhr in Velbert, south in Neuendettelsau).

Every two years the Academy organizes the "International Congress for Psychotherapy and Pastoral Care". First three congresses took place in Switzerland (Gwatt), then three in Marburg and finally three in Würzburg. The congress is designed as a continuous series in order to provide a reliable in-service training program every two years. In addition to the main presentations, there are therefore over 90 seminars on a wide variety of aspects in the fields of psychotherapy and pastoral care.

Reactions to individual congresses

Congress 2009

The lesbian and gay association in Germany accuses the academy and the congress of wanting to “treat homosexuals to heterosexuals”, that is, homophobia . On several occasions (at least) two speakers appeared at the congress who are accused of being of the opinion that "homosexuality is a disease worth treating". On the night of May 11, 2009, more than 40 houses in Marburg were the target of unknown perpetrators who committed damage to property ( graffiti ) with slogans against the congress and its speakers in Marburg . A demonstration on the same day was organized by the Greens , Pro Familia and Aids-Hilfe . At this demonstration, the criticism was limited to the controversial speakers at the conference, without addressing religion in the broader sense.

Congress 2019

In the run-up to the 2019 congress, Antifa Würzburg published an open letter in which it announced “a demo and information booths on the days of the congress”.

The politician Simone Barrientos accused the Lord Mayor of Würzburg , Christian Schuchardt , of courting "anti-feminist and homophobic agitation" with his greeting. Christian Schuchardt rejected the allegation.

Shortly before the congress, the Würzburg Congress Center was smeared.

On June 7, 2019 there was a demonstration against the Congress. Unlike in 2009, there will be no representatives of conversion therapies in 2019. The head of APS emphasized to the TAZ : "Homosexuality, bisexuality or transsexuality are not illnesses or mental disorders".
