description

blossoms

Ipomoea parasitica is a small or large growing herbaceous climber . The stems are hairless or almost hairless and often have wart-like, fleshy bumps on the underside. The leaves are long stalked , the leaf blades are rounded heart-shaped and 6 to 10 cm long. The upper side is hairy, the underside is hairless or almost hairless. Towards the front they are pointed or rounded and lobed.

The inflorescences consist of five to twelve flowers , the strong inflorescence stalks are shorter or only slightly longer than the leaf stalks. The flower stalks are clearly thickened towards the top. The sepals are 4 to 5 mm long, the outer ones are lanceolate-egg-shaped, almost pointed and finely lobed and finely haired with tomentose trichomes. The inner sepals are rounded. The crown is silky hairy on the outside, 3 cm long and colored bright purple. The stamens reach roughly to the middle of the crown. The pen is about as long as the stamens and breaks shortly after the faded crown has fallen off too.

The fruits are egg-shaped, spherical capsules with a length of 1 cm. The seeds are finely hairy.

distribution

The species occurs from Mexico across Central America to northern South America . It grows there on bushy slopes and in thickets at altitudes between 800 and 1500 m.
