Ipomoea pes-tigridis is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is widespread.

description

Ipomoea pes-tigridis is an herbaceous , annual , twisting plant, the stems of which are hairy and hairy and can be 0.5 to 3 m long. The leaves are stalked with 2 to 8 cm long petioles . The leaf blades are circular to transversely elliptical in outline, 2 to 10 cm long and 3 to 13 cm wide. They are deeply palm-like divided into (rarely only three) five to nine segments. These are elliptical or elongated, tapered conically on both sides and densely hairy, the tip is spiky.

The inflorescences consist of a few flowers and are head-like . The inflorescence stalks are 4 to 11 cm long, the bracts are hairy with bristles, the outer bracts surrounding the inflorescence are elongated to linear and 2 to 2.5 cm long, the inner ones are slightly smaller. Flower stalks are not formed. The sepals are lanceolate, slightly unevenly shaped, 1 to 1.4 cm long and bristly hairy on both sides. The crown is white, funnel-shaped and 3 to 4 cm long. The bands in the central axis of the petals are slightly hairy. The stamens and pistil do not protrude beyond the crown. The stamens are hairless. The ovary is bicameral and hairless. The scar is bilobed.

The fruits are egg-shaped, four-lobed capsules about 7 mm long . The seeds are elliptical, about 4 mm long and hairy gray with fine felted hair.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28 or 30.

distribution

The species is distributed in Asia , Africa , Australia and on various islands in the Pacific . It grows in thickets, on roadsides and at sea coasts at altitudes between 0 and 400 m.

Systematics

One can distinguish between three varieties:

  • Ipomoea pes-tigridis var. Africana Hallier f. : It occurs in tropical Africa.
  • Ipomoea pes-tigridis var. Longibracteata Vatke : It occurs from Somalia to Tanzania.
  • Ipomoea pes-tigridis var. Pes-tigridis : It occurs in the tropics and subtropics of Africa and Asia.
