The Irrawaddy region ( Burmese ဧရာဝတီတိုင်းဒေသကြီး , BGN / PCGN : eyawadidaingdethagyi , until 2008 Irrawaddy Division , also Ayeyawady and Ayeyarwady ) is one of the 15 administrative units of Myanmar .
geography
The Irrawaddy region is located in the Irrawaddy Delta on the coast of the Bay of Bengal . In the north and east it borders on the Bago region , in the east also on the Yangon region , in the south and south-east and south-west on the Bay of Bengal, in the north-west on the Rakhine State .
The division is between 15 ° 40 'and 18 ° 30' North and between 94 ° 15 'and 96 ° 15' East.
population
The Bamar make up the majority of the population . Arakanese live on the coast in the west . The majority of the population is Buddhist. But there are also Muslim and Christian minorities.

The Irrawaddy region is known as the rice chamber of Burma. Beaches can be found in Chaungtha and Ngwesaung . Chaungtha is mostly visited by locals, Ngwesaung also by tourists.

The division consists of six districts: Pathein , Hinthada , Labutta , Myaungmya , Maubin and Phyapon . Pathein is the capital of the region.
