Irene Kwambai Kipchumba (born October 25, 1978 ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

At the 2000 World Cross Country Championships she was eleventh. In 2004 she came in 34th place at the World Cross Country Championships and won the Cursa Bombers . At the 2004 African Athletics Championships , she won the silver medal over 10,000 m .

In 2005 she was again eleventh at the Cross Country World Championships and defended her title with the Cursa Bombers with the fastest 10 km time on Spanish soil. At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki she was tenth over 10,000 m.

The following year she won the humarathon over the half-marathon distance , in which she had already been victorious in 2001, and the 15 km of Le Puy-en-Velay. In 2007 she won bronze over 10,000 m at the Pan-African Games in Algiers and triumphed at the Prague Grand Prix .

Second places each at the Singelloop Utrecht 2008 and the Prague Half Marathon 2009 followed in 2010 by a fourth place at the Prague Half Marathon and a third at the Hanover Marathon .
