Irina Pauls

Irina Pauls (born June 2, 1961 in Leipzig ) is a German choreographer and director .

Life

Pauls grew up in Leipzig. She is the younger sister of the actor and cabaret artist Tom Pauls . She received her dance training at the Palucca School in Dresden . This was followed by choreography studies at the “Hans Otto” theater school in Leipzig .

Irina Pauls worked as director of the dance theater at the Landestheater Altenburg , Schauspiel Leipzig , Oldenburgische Staatstheater , Theater der Stadt Heidelberg and as director of the dance theater cooperation of the Theater Freiburg / Heidelberg.

She developed choreographies for the German National Theater Weimar , the State Theater Schwerin , the Theater Erfurt , the State Theater Cottbus , the Bavarian State Theater in Munich , the Schauspiel Essen, the Ballet Panfilow Perm (Russia), the Theater of Northern Greece Thessaloniki (Greece), the CoisCeim Dance Theater Dublin (Ireland) and the Theater Junge Generation Dresden.

Pauls gave workshops in Perm, Kiev, Dublin and Manila.

Performances were created under her direction for: Glashalle Neue Messe Leipzig , Grassimuseum Leipzig , Lorenzkirche Nürnberg , St. Jakobi Church Stralsund , Reithalle Worpswede, Kunstverein Heidelberg, Kurpfälzisches Museum der Stadt Heidelberg , Peterskirche Heidelberg , Heidelberg Castle , Organ Factory Karlsruhe, Augustinermuseum Freiburg and Leipzig / Halle Airport .

She received the Choreography Prize from the Ministry of Culture .

Since autumn 2007 she has been the artistic director of the company and the company DC Dilligence at the Leipzig dance theater .

In her artistic work, Pauls deals with numerous genres and topics. For example, in Moor (1998) with landscape, in One Half of Front (1999) with movement research, in Morgen und Morgen (2000) with society, in als ob (1999) with contemporary music, in The Story of Macbeth (2005) with classical drama, in Vater oder die Anatomie eines Mordes (2005) with new theater texts, in wait and see (2001) with architecture and in Orpheus and Eurydice (1996) with opera.

Pauls lives in Leipzig.
