The theater school "Hans Otto" Leipzig was a theater school in Leipzig that existed from 1953 to 1992.

history

The Leipzig Theater Academy emerged on November 1, 1953 from the merger of the German Theater Institute Weimar , whose successor it saw itself, with the Leipzig Theater School . Programmatically, too, she saw herself as a direct successor to the Weimar Institute, particularly by cultivating the acting methodical and theoretical legacy of KS Stanislawski ; Since the late 1960s, Bertolt Brecht has been appointed . In 1967 she received after the 1933 murdered by the Nazis actor Hans Otto name Theaterhochschule Hans Otto . The university resided in the Villa Sieskind at Wächterstrasse 15 in Leipzig's music district and in neighboring buildings at Beethovenstrasse 15 and Schwägrichenstrasse 3.

The Saxon University Structure Act of April 10, 1992 dissolved the "Hans Otto" theater school on September 30, 1992. The spectacle was as a department at the University of Music and Theater (HMT) "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig affiliated with the Theater Studies as a newly created Institute for Theater Studies at the Faculty of History, Arts and Oriental Studies of the University of Leipzig . The choreography department was closed, and the distance learning theater studies continued until December 31, 1996.

In 2009, the drama department at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig was renamed the "Hans Otto" drama institute .
