Irio De Paula

Irio Nepomuceno De Paula (born May 10, 1939 in Rio de Janeiro ; † May 23, 2017 in Rome ) was a Brazilian jazz guitarist and composer , who was particularly prominent in the field of bossa nova and samba .

Live and act

De Paula, who was a self-taught guitarist , initially belonged to the Grupo Brasil 40 Graos and was involved in their 1966 album. Since 1970 he lived in Italy. He initially accompanied the singer Elza Soares and Chico Buarque on his album Per un pugno di samba . He contributed to the soundtrack of the feature film L'ultima neve di primavera (1973) with his song Criança , which was a hit in Italy. He led his own groups, but also appeared frequently as a soloist and in the duo Irio e Gio with the Italian guitarist and singer Giovanna Marinuzzi. He has also appeared on albums by Romano Mussolini , Lee Konitz and Renato Sellani, and has worked with Gato Barbieri , Chet Baker , Tal Farlow and Archie Shepp .
