Iron Dragon in Cedar Point ( Sandusky , Ohio , USA ) is a steel roller coaster from the model suspended coaster of manufacturer Arrow Dynamics , which was opened on June 11 1987th The special thing about a suspended coaster is that the trolleys are suspended under the rail so that they can swing freely, so that the trolleys can swing from one side to the other in the curves.
Before Iron Dragon opened, Western Cruise Boats were on the water around the island . Iron Dragon's station is now exactly where the boat trip was. The carousel ride Monster was located under today's Iron Dragon transfer rail . Monster closed on Labor Day 1986 to allow construction on Iron Dragon to begin. Planning for Iron Dragon began in 1985.
The original color scheme of Iron Dragon consisted of a red rail and gray supports, just like Ninja in Six Flags Magic Mountain , which is also a suspended coaster. In 2004, the supports were repainted in yellow and the rails were repainted in the same original color to match the color of the Top Thrill Dragster .
In the early and mid 1990s, a remote-controlled boat game was installed on the lake under the last Iron Dragon helix , but was removed in 1997.
Trains
Iron Dragon has three trains with seven cars each. Four people (two rows of two people) can be seated in each car. The passengers must be at least 1.17 m tall to be allowed to ride. Shoulder straps are used as a restraint system.
