Isaac Forster

Isaac Forster (born August 14, 1903 in Dakar ; † March 27, 1984 ibid) was a Senegalese lawyer. From 1964 to 1982 he was a judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague .

Life

Isaac Forster was born in Dakar in 1903 and attended the Lycée Hoche in Versailles . He then studied law in Paris , where he obtained a licentiate .

In the period that followed, he held various positions in the court and public prosecutor's office in French West Africa and later in Senegal. So he worked from June 1933 as deputy public prosecutor in Conakry , from 1941 as a judge in Saint Denis and then in Madagascar and from July 1942 as Procureur de la République in Lomé . In 1945 Isaac Forster was appointed Conseiller of the Court of Appeal in Guadeloupe and in January 1947 he was appointed Conseiller of the Court of Appeal of French West Africa. From 1952 he worked for the then French President Vincent Auriol and from 1956 for his successor René Coty . In September 1957 he took over the presidency of a chamber of the Court of Appeal of French West Africa.

In 1958, Isaac Forster was appointed Secretary General of the Senegalese government. In 1959 he took over the office of Attorney General in Dakar, and a year later he was appointed President of the Senegalese Supreme Court. From 1964 to 1982 he worked as a judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Isaac Forster was also a member of the Expert Committee on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations of the International Labor Organization . From 1963 he was a member of the Institut de Droit international and has received several awards for his services.

Isaac Forster died in his hometown in 1984.
