Isaak Gottfried Gödtke

Isaac Gottfried Goedtke (born December 12, 1691 in Conitz , Royal Prussia , Kingdom of Poland , † June 6, 1765 ibid) was a German lawyer , mayor of Conitz and regional historian.

Life

He was the son of the Lutheran pastor in Conitz Christian Goedtke and his wife Elisabeth, née Wilke, a daughter of the mayor of the Stadr. After attending the grammar schools in Thorn (1705) and Danzig (1706), he studied theology and philosophy in Königsberg and, from 1713, in Leipzig and then also in Wittenberg, law. In Leipzig he also attended lectures by the historian Johann Burckhardt Mencke .

From 1716 Goedtke was the town clerk ( Notarius civitatis ) in Conitz. In 1736 he became a member of the city council, in 1738 second chamberlain , but resigned in the same year, and Scholarch . He then withdrew for a time, probably to devote himself to historical studies.

In 1742 Isaac Gottfried Goedtke was elected mayor and president of the city council of Konitz. Under his leadership the town church, school and town hall, which had been destroyed during the conflagration of 1742, were rebuilt. In 1760 he retired. In 1763 he was called the Royal Polish Councilor .

Isaac Gottfried Goedtke did a great job of researching regional history in Polish-Prussia by collecting historical sources and reorganizing the Konitz municipal archives that were destroyed in the chaos of war.

In today's town of Chojnice there is Isaaka Gottfryda Goedtke street.
