Isaac Veatch

Isaac Veatch (born February 18, 1786 in Sevier County , Tennessee , † July 31, 1833 in New Albany , Floyd County , Indiana ) was an American politician and Baptist .

Career

Isaac Veatch grew up on a farm in Tennessee. He then moved to Harrison County with his family between 1811 and 1812 . There he was pastor of the Old School Baptist Church . After his wife died in 1822 he left for Meade County ( Kentucky ), where he lived for two years. He then settled in Luce Township in Spencer County (Indiana). In the following period he was politically active. He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1827 to 1828 . Last year he ran unsuccessfully for re-election to the House of Representatives. He then moved first to New Albany in 1831 and then to Clark County a year later . He died in New Albany in 1833 as a result of a cholera epidemic .

Isaac Veatch was married twice. On July 27, 1806, he married Lucinda Ramsey. The couple had eight children together, including John A. (1808–1880) and James C. Veatch (1819–1895). John served first as First Lieutenant and later as Captain during the Mexican-American War (1846–1848). He also worked as a surgeon, surveyor and scientist. James served first as a colonel and most recently as brigadier general during the American Civil War (1861-1865). He also worked as a lawyer and politician. Lucinda Ramsey died on September 29, 1822 in Harrison County. After her death, Isaac Veatch married Mary Sprigg († 1871) on April 17, 1823. The couple had seven children together.
