Isaiah Spencer
Isaiah Spencer (* around 1979 in Chicago ) is an American jazz musician ( drums ).
Live and act
Spencer first played the trumpet in elementary school , since the position on the band drums was occupied; by the time he was able to move after the third grade, he was already playing drums in church on Sundays. From the fifth grade onwards, he received a scholarship to take drum lessons at a music school. He attended Lincoln Park High School , was accepted into their fine arts program and received instruction in music theory and harmony ; he was also a member of the school's jazz band. He was then recommended to the All-City Jazz Band and trained by Curtis Prince and Ronald Carter. He attended the College of Roosevelt University for two years with a focus on music, and then continued his studies in the Meet the Composers program.
From 1998 Spencer was professionally active in the Chicago music scene; u. a. He played with childhood friends such as Maurice “Mobetta” Brown , Corey Wilkes and Kevin Nabors, as well as with musicians such as Fred Anderson , William Parker , Ernest Dawkins and David Murray, and with veterans such as Clark Terry , Von Freeman , Curtis Fuller and George Freeman . He led a sextet under his own name that performed regularly in the Velvet Lounge . Other own formations are Victor Garcia & Isaiah Spencer Organ Dynasty , Isaiah Spencer Collective (with Anton Hatwich, among others ) and the Isaiah Spencer Organ Trio . Recordings were made with Nicole Mitchell ( Afrika Rising ), David Boykin , Guy King, Markus Rutz and Junius Paul. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 1999 and 2016, according to Tom Lord . He appeared in the short film We Have Reservations (2015).
