Isosorbide mononitrate is a long-acting nitrate that is used in patients with angina pectoris or heart attack . It is an NO donor that releases nitric oxide through enzymatic metabolism and has a vasodilating effect. So there is a tendency to group blood vessels more into groups of the same size and thereby increase the blood flow, as the vessels are expanded in this way.
