István Szabó (engineer)

István Szabó (born December 13, 1906 in Orosháza , Hungary , † January 21, 1980 in Berlin ) was a German engineer and mathematician of Hungarian origin.

Szabo studied physics at the Technical University of Berlin from 1926 (under Rudolf Rothe , Georg Hamel , Richard Becker , Gustav Hertz, among others ) and obtained his engineering diploma in 1934 while simultaneously working for three years in the Osram research laboratory . After further industrial activity at Osram (1935 to 1939) he became assistant to the mathematician Werner Schmeidler at the TU Berlin in 1940 , with whom he received his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) ( The flow around an area ) in 1943 (with Georg Hamel as second reviewer) with elliptical outline ). From 1946 he was a senior engineer at the TU Berlin with Ernst Mohr , where he qualified as a professor in 1947 ( The temperature field in the anode of an X-ray tube ). From 1948 to 1975 he held the chair for mechanics at the Technical University of Berlin. The textbooks he wrote, Introduction to Technical Mechanics and Higher Technical Mechanics, are now considered classics in technical literature .

István Szabó also made a name for himself in the history of technology . In his lectures on technical mechanics , he repeatedly emphasized the continuous development of this science from ancient times to modern space travel . He wrote numerous essays about it and also a richly illustrated history of mechanics.
