Ivan Timofejewitsch Schljomin
Ivan Timofeyevich Schljomin ( Russian Иван Тимофеевич Шлёмин ; born March 9, jul. / 21st March 1898 greg. In Trunowo, Tver province , Russian Empire ; † 10. January 1969 in Moscow , Russian Soviet republic , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet-Russian Lieutenant General and Hero of the Soviet Union .
Life
Ivan Timofejewitsch Schljomin was born in the village of Trunowo in Tver Governorate (today in Kalininski rajon in Tver Oblast ). In February 1917 he was drafted into the Imperial Russian Army and took part in the First World War as a non-commissioned officer . In September 1918 Schljomin joined the Red Army as a volunteer and took part in the Russian Civil War as a platoon leader . In 1920 he joined the WKP (B), which later became the CPSU .
Since July 1940 and at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War , Major General Schljomin was Chief of Staff of the 11th Army . From May 1942 he was Chief of Staff of the Northwest Front , then he was Chief of Staff of the 1st Guard Army of the Southwest Front . From January to April 1943 he commanded the 5th Panzer Army on the Southwest Front. On March 19, 1943 he was promoted to lieutenant general. From April to May 1943 he commanded the 12th Army on the Southwest Front, from September 11, 1943 to May 27, 1944 the 6th Army on the Southwest Front and the 3rd Ukrainian Front . From May 27, 1944 to January 16, 1945 he commanded the 46th Army on the 3rd and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts. The armed forces under his command took a. at the Battle of Stalingrad , on the Donets Basin operation , at the Beresnegowatoje-Snigirjower operation , at the Jassy-Kishinev Offensive , at the Debrecen operation , at the Belgrade Offensive , on the Dnieper-Carpathian Offensive and the Battle of Budapest in part .
For the skillful organization of the troops and the courage he showed in the process, Ivan Schljomin was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on July 1, 1945.
After the war, he stayed with the army and retired from active service in 1962. He was married to Praskowja Wassiljewna Schljomina (1922-2002), with whom he had a daughter, Olga Ivanovna Schljomina (1951-2013). Schljomin died in 1969 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
