The Jáchymovský potok (German: Joachimsthaler Bach , Weseritz ) is a left tributary of the Bystřice ( Wistritz ) in the Karlovy Vary region in the Czech Republic .

Location and course

The stream has its source in the Bohemian Ore Mountains on the western slope of the Keilberg at an altitude of about 962 m. Like most of the streams on the southern slope of the Ore Mountains, it mainly flows from north to south. In a deep valley it crosses the old mountain town of Sankt Joachimsthal ( Jáchymov ), which was built along the stream since 1517 after significant silver finds . At the end of the village, it takes in the two streams Veseřice (1) and Suchá that flow from the left and also drain the Klínovec . Then it flows through Horní Žďár ( Oberbrand ) and then Dolní Žďár ( Unterbrand ) and Ostrov ( Schlackenwerth ) flow into the Bystřice.

particularities

Between 1896 and 1957, the Ostrov nad Ohří – Jáchymov railway operated in the valley of the brook, the steepest adhesion railway in Bohemia with a gradient of over 50 per thousand .

The lower 5 km of the creek are temporarily accessible by canoe .

Remarks

(1)The naming of the creek and its tributaries is not uniform in both the past and the present. The second French military recording already used the seldom used German term "Joachimsthaler Bach". In contrast, as early as 1795 and earlier authors, Schaller named the Bach Weseritz, who was coming from Joachimsthal . The III. A French military recording names the lower piece "Weseritz-B." Today there are still different names for the tributaries. The mapy.cz map service names the stream flowing in below Jáchymov from the left as Klínovecký potok with the Veseřice, which is linguistically reminiscent of the old name Weseritz, as a tributary. In the official bodies' water index, however, it is the other way round and the tributary of the Jachymovský potok is the Veserice with the 1.9 km short Klínovecký potok as a tributary.
