Jón Loftur Árnason
Jón Loftur Árnason (born November 13, 1960 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic chess player .
In Cagnes-sur-Mer , he won the U17 World Cup in 1977 . He won the Icelandic individual championship three times: 1977, 1982 and 1988. He played for Iceland at nine chess Olympiads : 1978 to 1994 . He also took part twice in the European team championships (1992 and 2015) and once in the team world championships (1993) in Lucerne .
In 1979 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). The title of Grand Master (GM) was awarded to him in 1986. His highest rating was 2555 in July 1987. Since 2014 he has held the title of FIDE coach.
