Stefán Kristjánsson (born December 8, 1982 in Reykjavík - † February 28, 2018 ) was an Icelandic chess player .

Stefán Kristjánsson learned to play chess at the age of eleven.

He played for Iceland at five Chess Olympiads : 2000 to 2008 . He also took part in the European team championships four times (2001 to 2007).

In 2002 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM). The title of Grand Master (GM) was awarded to him in 2011. His highest rating was 2503 in March 2014.

He left a son.
