Józef Gąsienica Daniel (born June 15, 1945 in Zakopane ; † February 8, 2008 ibid) was a Polish Nordic combined skier and ski jumper . Between 1965 and 1969 he was five times Polish champion in Nordic combined.

Career

Gąsienica Daniel, who competed for both WKS Zakopane and Start Zakopane in his career , grew up as the youngest in a sporty family. His siblings Andrzej , Franciszek , Helena and Maria were active in various winter sports and were able to win several national championship titles.

Gąsienica Daniel celebrated his first successes at national level, where he won his first championship title in the combination in 1965 at the age of nineteen. In the following four years he was able to defend his title. At the ski jumping championships he achieved his best individual placements in 1969 in Zakopane, when he won silver from Wielka Krokiew and bronze from Średnia Krokiew .

At the World Championships in Oslo in 1966 Gąsienica Daniel finished 25th. In addition, he took part in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble and was even considered a favorite together with Józef Gąsienica . In the Gundersen competition, however, he fell on his second jump, so that he had no chance and finally took 15th place.

In addition to these major events, Gąsienica Daniel took part in other international competitions. He was able to win the Czech Marusarzówna Memorial of the Nordic Combined in 1966, 1967 and 1969 . He also reached the podium in Reit im Winkl , Germany.
