Jörg Wiele (born June 2, 1951 in Blievenstorf , Mecklenburg ) is a Düsseldorf sculptor who is best known for his kinetic objects. His works include figurative kinetic sculptures (including the "Garuda cycle") for the outdoor space. His works are installed in Germany.

Life

Wiele completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic as a basic requirement for his objects from 1967 to 1971 . In 1973 he applied to the Düsseldorf Art Academy with a small sculpture (which in retrospect set the trend) and decided to study sculpture. His professors at the time included Fritz Schwegler and Karl Bobeck. In 1981 he finished his studies. In 1978 Wiele received the Ernst Poensgens scholarship and then worked as a freelance artist and sculptor in Düsseldorf. From 1981 several study trips to Turkey , Egypt , India , Sri Lanka and Indonesia followed . The impressions of Asian culture gained on his travels flowed into his works. He is married and has two children.

technical description

The example of “Garuda” gives a clear picture of Wiele's works. The work of art stands on a 3.8 meter high base made of volcanic basalt . The five individual metal hollow forms have sizes between four and five meters with a total weight of around 350 kilograms and are made of the following materials: steel , copper , brass , lead , ball bearings and gold leaf . The total height in the movement is around 7 meters and the horizontal movement diameter is around 8 meters.

The "circular spiral" is an asymmetrical copper cone on a volcanic basalt base. It is located on Lindenstrasse in Grevenbroich and consists of six wind-driven metal hollow forms from 2 to 6 m in size, which have a movement diameter of 7 m. The 7 m high work with a weight of 250 kg consists of copper, brass, lead, V2A / ball bearings and gold leaf.
