Jörg Wolle (born April 19, 1957 in Plauen ; legal resident in Herrliberg ) is a Swiss manager . He is Chairman of the Board of Directors (VR-P) at the logistics company Kühne & Nagel and the mechanical engineering company Klingelnberg , both based in Switzerland. Between 2017 and 2019 he was also VR-P at the trading and service company DKSH .

education

As a mechanical engineer, Wolle received his doctorate in 1987 from the Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt (TU Chemnitz) .

The Sächsische Zeitung wrote about him in 2017: "The East was open to him at that time, but he wants to flee, plans meticulously". Shortly before the fall of the Wall, in March 1988, he jumped from the approaching train in Stuttgart Central Station , which was supposed to bring him back to the GDR. He had a doctorate in mechanical engineering at the time, but had no money or connections, which forced him to start from scratch.

He later completed Executive Development at IMD Lausanne (1993 to 1994) and the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University (1998). Wool considers the connection between technology and business to be advantageous: “In my opinion, that speaks clearly in favor of a course such as industrial engineering. But I also consider the addition of an MBA to technical training to be recommended. "

Jörg Wolle is honorary professor for intercultural communication at the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau .

Career

Jörg Wolle worked from 1988 to 1990 as a manager for international projects for the Swedish ball bearing manufacturer SKF in India, Russia, China and Iran.

In 1991 he went to the Swiss trading company Siber Hegner in Hong Kong and China as Director of Marketing and Sales , which later merged into the DKSH . In 1995 he moved to its headquarters in Zurich and in 2000 became managing director and delegate of the board of directors of Siber Hegner . In 2002 Siber Hegner merged with Diethelm Keller's Asia business to form DKSH . Balance sheet editor-in-chief Dirk Schütz commented: Wool "turned a starving sales company into a successful service provider. The operating profit increased fivefold". He could "look back on a life that was almost like a film". In March 2017 he stepped down as CEO of DKSH and became its Chairman of the Board of Directors. In March 2019, he finally resigned from all offices at DKSH.

Jörg Wolle has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuehne + Nagel International AG since May 2016 and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Klingelnberg AG since June 2018 . He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Olam International.

Private

Privately, he works for Lonrho Ltd. involved in investing in Africa . He has been married since 1987, has a daughter of full age and lives in the village of Schindellegi in the canton of Schwyz .

evaluation

With the DKSH, he “turned the former trading houses into a quick-witted group”. He was described as "one of the best experts on Asia" who had "contacts to the highest government heads in Asia". In addition, he is considered a "linker" who is binding in tone, but tough on the matter. The balance sheet describes him as “very well connected in the Swiss business world.” Wolle's management style has been associated with the “iron fist in a velvet glove”. His management style and remuneration were sometimes viewed critically.
