Jørre André Kjemperud (born August 31, 1968 in Vikersund ) is a Norwegian volleyball and beach volleyball player . He became European champion and took part in the Olympic Games three times.
Career
Kjemperud started playing indoor volleyball at the age of 17. He moved from his hometown club Vikersund / Moingen to KFUM Oslo and later he played in Randaberg . After using beach volleyball initially only to prepare for the indoor season, he completed his first open tournaments with Are Kristofer Hjeltnes in 1993 .
In 1996 he formed a new duo with his long-time partner Vegard Høidalen . The following year Kjemperud / Høidalen won the final of the European Championship in Riccione in a purely Norwegian final against Jan Kvalheim and Björn Maaseide . They also took part in the first world championship and finished 17th. In 1998 the Norwegians had their first success at an open tournament in Berlin. In the final they defeated the current world champions Guilherme and Pará from Brazil. At the European Championships in Rhodes , the defending champions won the bronze medal. A year later, Kjemperud / Høidalen did not get past 25th at the World Championships in Marseille . They finished the European Championship in Marseille in ninth place. The same result came in the 2000 Olympic tournament in Sydney . The next three European Championships brought the duo three more bronze medals in a row. They also achieved third place at the World Championships in Klagenfurt . After three ninth places at the European Championships in 2003 in Alanya and 2004 in Timmendorfer Strand as well as at the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro , they took part in the 2004 Olympic tournament in Sydney for the second time and finished ninth again. They then parted ways.
Kjemperud played with Tarjei Skarlund from 2005 . After two 1: 2 defeats against the Germans Dieckmann / Reckermann and the US-Americans Gibb / Metzger, the new duo took 17th place at the World Cup in Berlin . Two years later they failed in Gstaad as the bottom of the group in the preliminary round. At the European Championships in Valencia Kjemperud joined his old partner Høidalen and was eliminated after two sets of three defeats. With Skarlund, he achieved several top ten results in open and grand slam tournaments in 2008. His third Olympic participation ended in Beijing in 2008 after the preliminary round.
In 2009 and 2010 Kjemperud formed a solid duo with Høidalen again. At the world championships in their own country they were defeated in the first main round by the Austrians Gosch / Horst .
