The Jewish cemetery in Oberdorf am Ipf , a district of Bopfingen in the Ostalb district in Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1824. The Jewish cemetery on Karksteinstrasse, today in the middle of a new building area, is a protected architectural monument .

history

The Jewish community of Oberdorf am Ipf buried its dead in the Jewish cemetery in Wallerstein , which was laid out at the beginning of the 16th century, until its own cemetery was established. Since Oberdorf am Ipf came from the Kingdom of Bavaria to the Kingdom of Württemberg through the exchange of territory in 1810 , burials in the now foreign Wallerstein were associated with great effort.

The deceased of the Gmünder Jewish community, which was officially founded in 1890, were also buried in Oberdorf. In 1903 the cemetery was enlarged by about 29 ares . The last burials took place in 1947/48, when Polish Jews, so-called displaced persons , were buried.

In 1952 the cemetery area was reduced in size, the Tahara house demolished and the western part of the site sold and built with single-family houses. Today 469 tombstones ( mazewot ) are preserved in the 26.93 ares large cemetery .
