The Essentho Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery near Essentho / City of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

It is a protected architectural monument (No. 67 - List of architectural monuments in Marsberg).

description

The cemetery is on the western outskirts of Essentho, on the right on the road towards Fürstenberg . The cemetery, a grassy area lined with trees, is approx. 1300 m² in size and has a trapezoidal plan .

There are still 27 tombstones from the period between 1845 and 1937. Most are from the 19th century, some from the first third of the 20th century. According to the inscriptions on the tombstones, Jews from Essentho and Westheim were buried here. The oldest still legible inscription dates from 1845 (Trudchen Eichwald, born 1770; died 1845), the youngest from 1937 (Sally Stamm, born 1864; died 1937). The inscriptions on the front of the tombstones are in Hebrew, those on the back in German. There are also various symbols. The gravestones are mostly made of sandstone , some of granite .
