Jürgen Bremer
Jürgen Bremer (born May 25, 1804 in Adelby ; † November 20, 1874 in Flensburg ) was a lawyer and German politician in the Duchy of Schleswig . He represented the city of Eckernförde as a member of the Schleswig Assembly of Estates . In 1848 he became a member of the Provisional Government of Schleswig-Holstein.
Life
After attending the Latin school in Flensburg , Bremer enrolled at the Law Faculty of the University of Kiel and, after successfully completing his studies, passed his legal state examination and then became a lawyer and notary in Flensburg after completing his preparatory service in 1828 . The foundation of the Martinsstift, a "rescue facility for morally neglected children", can be traced back to his initiative. He was also a member of the college of the poor and worked in professional organizations.
After his election as a member of the Schleswig assembly of estates by the wealthy citizens of the city of Eckernförde, he pursued German-minded politics for a united Schleswig-Holstein in this function .
After the Schleswig-Holstein uprising against Denmark in 1848, he was appointed Minister of Justice in the provisional government of Schleswig-Holstein as representative of North Schleswig .
After the failure of the survey, he first had to leave his home and became a judge in Braunschweig and Lübeck . In 1864 Bremer returned to Flensburg and became first mayor there . He resigned after just six months.
Honors
The Bremerplatz ( location ) in Flensburg is named after him and in Kiel the Bremerstraße.
